Here is The Message version.
“Jesus said, ‘You’re way off base, and here’s why:
One, you don’t know your Bibles;
two, you don’t know how God works.'”
Note to self:
Know my Bible.
Know how God works.
That should keep me from getting off base.

A very appropriate post at this time of October sports…….being way off base in a baseball game is obviously not a good thing — it can get you “out”. Players have to know the rule book, and how the strategy works. I don’t want to be way off base and called “out” when running the bases for God’s team.
